Current mood:
weird
I was in the hospital for something. A surgery of some sort. My doctors were all very nice and my room was similar to that of a hotel and I had my laptop. I was in sector 4. After I was all patched up, my Dad came and got me and we packed up all my stuff and left. I thought I had done a pretty thorough inspection of the rooms to make sure we had not forgotten anything...
So, I end up at Keri's house. I think I took the bus part of the way and walked the rest of the way. She lived over by the GarlandBrook Cemetery. There was a light rain that turned int a pretty thick snow, but none of it was sticking. I went inside and after much harassment, convinced her that she really ought to go to the mall with me. She got ready and then looked outside and started up with the grumbling about getting her hair all messed up by the rain and snow. I told her she was being a sissy and that she PROMISED to go to the mall with me.
She finally re-agreed, and to ease her suffering from the elements, decided that she would turn into a kitten for the long walk to the mall. Sooo.... she did. She turned into a small fluffy white kitten. The second we were out the door, she took off running, just for the fun of it, but she didn't see the utility truck until it was too late. I was screaming after her, but I realized too late that I was screaming MY cat's name and so she paid me no mind.
The truck didn't fully run over her, it just ran over her front right leg, but it flung her over the tire. I was still screaming when I got to her and picked her up, her white fur all grey and matted with road dirt and water. She didn't move. She was trying to and couldn't. I could see that she was still alive, though her front leg was smashed. I felt around on her small body for broken bones and felt my stomach lurch when I ran my fingers down her back. Her spine was shattered just below her shoulderblades.
I ran back to her house and into her parent's room (that looked like my Mom's room) where her Dad (who actually looked like Car'ls Dad) was watching TV. I hysterically told him what was going on and that we had to get her to the hospital. For some reason, he said that we needed to take my laptop with us. I realized just then that I had actually left it AT the hospital. The whole time, I'm holding the Keri-kitten. She isn't moving much. She keeps trying to meow, but no sound comes out. I keep telling her that it's going to be ok.
We get to the hospital and check her in and then I start out on the search for my laptop. I remember that I had been in sector 4, but when I get there, its the ICU, and I wasn't IN the ICU. I asked someone about it and they tell me that I was on FLOOR 4. So I set off in search of that.
I woke up when I was in the elevator and felt an odd combination of terror and infinite sadness, almost enough to bring me to tears. Dreams are fucked up.
