Very Opinionated, I Am (Oct 5, 2008)
Current mood:

contemplative
1) Do you have the guts to answer these questions and post them as "The Controversial Survey"?
Well, it isn't very long, and I've taken several surveys that were titled "controversial" but were not, so we'll see how this goes.
2) Would you do meth if it was legalized?
Nope. I really don't think that one should be legal. I mean, I really do believe that one is bad for you. Legalize pot, sure, but unless you just want population control, I recommend not legalizing meth. The people that do meth aren't always the burnt out druggies that no one wants cluttering up the streets. Sometimes they're very bright people that have made a stupid choice. And we need all of those we can get.
3) Abortion: for or against?
I'm against abortion. Do I want it made illegal? No. Ultimately, its the woman (and man's) choice, not mine. Who am I to tell other people how to live their lives?
4) Would our country fall with a woman president?
Not necessarily. The women we have on the board now? Certainly. I think that Hillary wouldhave slowly destroyed this place and I'm of the VERY firm opinion that Palin is the devil in a suit.
5) Do you support the death penalty?
In VERY extreme cases, yes. But only in very extreme cases. I'm actually very pissy about it right now. I just watched an episode of one of my favorite shows in which a man with an IQ of 80 (for those of you yet to achieve that number, that means he was only 10 points aboveretarded) was told, while on drugs, that he was guilty of a crime, so confessed to it to make his peace with God, and while there was no DNA evidence and no witnesses to the actual crime, was sentenced as guilty and killed.
6) Do you wish marijuana would be legalized already?
Yes. I, personally, don't smoke it, but I think that it wouldn't hurt the economy at all to have a new product that everyone wants. I also think that it's a fairly harmless drug. Slap a filter in a joint, and you instantly have something to smoke that not only gets you high, but is better for you than cigarettes. Pot boosts your immune system, you know. Also, if it weren't illegal to grow the shit, there'd be a lot of industry in that. You can use hemp to make just about everything, and fairly cheaply, too. Clothes, rope, oils, sails for ships, all sorts of stuff. It used to be extremely important to the US Navy, did you know? Not only for sails and shoes and clothes, but also they used to use hemp wax to seal the hulls of their ships.
7) Pre-marital sex?
Sure. If there can be divorces, marriage isn't as sacred a vow as it seems anyway, so why save yourself, right? Besides, what about those people who either don't WANT to marry or those who, by law, cannot?
8) Do you believe in God?
I do, in some incarnation. I don't know that I believe in the same God that most Christians do (or claim they do, anyway), because the God I happen to believe in does not condemn people for trivial things. He loves all his creations, regardless of whether they
are straight, bi, or gay. He loves them if they hate their parents. He loves them if they despise their community, their government, their country. I think the Christian God is not like this, really. I think that his followers have represented him quite poorly.
9) Do you think same sex marriage should be legalized?
I do. I think people should be free to marry whomever they please. I don't think that it should be kept hidden, or secret. I think that I will be satisfied about this when I can walk down the street in even a small town and see couples sitting on benches in the park... A man and his woman after church, having a picnic. A man and his man after church, playing frisbee. No derisive stares, no mumbled snide comments. I really don't think there should even be a distinction.
10) Do you think it's wrong that so many illegal aliens are moving to the USA?
I think its wrong that they are dong it illegally, yes. Do I think that they are wrong to move here? No. I think that's what the real question is. People don't want them here. They say that they are taking up all the jobs. Well, the jobs they are taking are the ones we all seem to be too good to do anyway. They're working hard for minimal pay, making them very affordable to companies. I think that if they'd go through the proper channels to get here, I'd have no problem with them at all.
12) Should the alcohol age be lowered to 18?
Yes and no. I think that the drinking age should be lowered to 18 ONLY if the drinker can provide a VALID military PHOTO ID. I very firmly believe that if a person is old enough to go fight and die for our country, he should be old enough to sit down and have a drink.
13) Should the war in Iraq be called off?
Yes it should. We are no longer there for a real reason, it has become political. We aren't fighting terrorists anymore, we are invading countries. Constitutionally, this is wrong and we shouldn't be doing it. But, really, how long has it been since the United States did anything constitutionally?
14) Assisted suicide is illegal, should it be?
Only in terminal cases, I think. If the case isn't terminal, it should be illegal.
15) Do you believe in spanking your children?
Spanking, yes. Beating, no. I still believe that kids don't learn anything unless they get a good whoopin' every now and then. I got a fucking BUNCH of them when I was little and I think for all my issues, I turned out really well. This modern age of "sit in the corner and thinkabout what you've done" bullshit is raising kids who think they can get away with anything (and often times do) and who have no real value system.
16) Would you burn an American flag for a million dollars?
Hell, I'd burn one for $20, if I needed the cash, but I'll take the mill. The American flag, as we know it, is a war-time flag. Did you know that? I bet you didn't. The peace-time flag looksmuch different. This tells me a few things about our country. We are always at war. Why is that, do you think? We are a warring country. We are not a peaceful people. We are invaders, we are killers. Also, I think that the flag has become a false symbol. People salute the flag, but hold none of the morals and values that the flag is "supposed" to represent. It has become a hollow icon. When I say that I would burn a flag at the drop of the hat, it is not because I hold no love for this country. That's a completely different subject. It is not because I have no respect for our troops, fighting and dying. I do. Hell, I know some of them and I hold them in high regard. I do not believe in the cause they are fighting for or the war they are fighting in, but I support the TROOPS, not the wars. I'd burn the flag because the flag itself is meaningless to me. If I thought that it really meant something, I would still burn it if I needed the cash. Nothing is sacred when you have nothing but the clothes on your back, when you're living in a house that has long since been condemned, when your daily food is leftovers and table scraps from nearby diners. I've been that person.
17) A mother is declared innocent after murdering her 5 children in an insanity case, do you agree?
I know enough about lawyers to say that no, I don't agree. I do, however, think that if she got off on insanity, she should be in an institution for life. A fine defense attorney can get you off on just about anything. If they jury decided that you killed your kids but were legally insane at the time of the murders, you should be in a facility. There really is no "innocent" there, just less guilty.
18) Are you afraid others will judge you for reading some of your answers?
I don't care if they do. As a matter of fact, this will not only be a bulletin, but a blog post, because I think my replies were well thought out and I was going to rant about a few of thesethings anyway. Plus, that way if someone wants to question a point I made in here with me, I can easily reply to them and we can discuss it.
